Full Coverage Discount Auto Insurance Misconceptions

While these tight financial times continue to worsen, and gas prices continue to elevate again one can’t help but reflect on all the other needs in our lives that may be impacted. Almost all of us have to drive to and from work, and considering what gas prices cost these days, only wish we could begin carpooling or taking public transit.

So the question has come to be, since I live in a State that makes car insurance mandatory, how can I find Discount Auto Insurance? How can I make sure I secure coverage that meets my needs when there are plethora of options to choose from?

1st it’s important to know the minimum coverage accepted by Law for the state you live in. Colorado requires liability Coverage for each individual driver like most other states, the minimum coverage allowed is $25,000 for each person. The maximum payout for all hurt parties would be $50,000 liability for a single accident. The total property damage liability for a single accident is $15,000. Meaning that you must purchase a bare minimum $25,000 per person for injuries caused to another person, up to $50,000 for all people injured in the accident you were involved in and $15,000 for damage you caused to the other persons property.

Again these are the minimum coverage required by Colorado State Law. When thinking about Auto Insurance you should consider higher levels of coverage if you have assets to think about. In addition to considering the protection of your assets, optional coverage such as medical payments, collision, other than collision and underinsured-uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage may be a safer way to go.

The driving force for how Colorado Vehicle Insurance prices are factored is based upon state driving records as a whole. What happens is that all the insurance companies take the cost of providing coverage for all state drivers (including claims and legal fees) and divide it up among all the drivers in the state. While all the costs should be distributed evenly, that is not what happens.

The amount you pay as an individual driver is determined by the following:
• Your driving record
• Your age
• Where you live
• Type of vehicle you drive

Let’s face it, if you are under 25 it doesn’t make a difference what state you live in, it is going to cost more when comparing Free Insurance Quotes. You could be driving a Pinto, a Viper or a Mustang GT your age works against you. Black cars and red cars cost more to insurance than grey or blue. A sports utility vehicle costs more to insure because they are more like it to be stolen. The amount of people installing GPS tracking systems to deter car theft is starting to become more common. It would be foolish to the extreme to steal a car that can be found in a matter of minutes, wouldn’t it? Security systems also lower your automobile insurance premiums. Often you may find during the questionnaire you will be asked whether you will be driving your automobile for pleasure or work and on average how many miles you will drive. These are all determining factors in what your insurance premium will be. Obviously by driving more, you increase your chance of having a motor vehicle accident. So do yourself a favor: protect both your assets and your wallet by comparison shopping before selecting automobile insurance.

Troubled Times May Enlarge The Percentage Of Uninsured Drivers To Record Levels

Approximately 17% of drivers across the United States may be driving without insurance by 2010, this information was compiled from a study by the Insurance Research Council. Although the estimated amount of non-insured drivers went down across the United States from 14.9% in 2003 to 13.8% in 2007, the national financial crisis is expected to begin the rise in the amount of non-insured drivers.

A recently published study, “Uninsured Motorists, 2008 Edition,” suggests the amount of non-insured motorist across the country and by state from 2005 to 2007. The Insurance Research Council calculates the population of non-insured drivers by examining the ratio between injury claims made by non-insured motorists and insured motorists.

The research tells the most current stats by state for bodily injury liability claims and non-insured drivers claim frequency and the ratio between bodily injury claims and non-insured drivers.

The severity of the non-insured driver situation differed greatly from state to state. In 2007, the biggest five non-insured motorist estimates by state were New Mexico 29%, Mississippi 28%, Alabama 26%, Oklahoma 24%, and Florida 23%. The five states with the lowest estimates of non-insured motorists were Massachusetts 1%, Maine 4&, North Dakota 5%, New York 5%, and Vermont 6%.

The research also showed a large correlation between the amount of people who are [spin]currently unemployed and the percent of non-insured drivers. The research shows if the unemployment rate increased to 1% it will correlate to an increase in the non-insured driver rate to more than 3/4 of 1%. Based on the projected unemployment rate figures, the percentage of non-insured drivers is expected to increase from 13.8% in 2007 to 16.1% in 2010.

“An increase in the number of uninsured motorists is an unfortunate consequence of the economic downturn and illustrates how virtually everyone is affected by recent economic developments,” said the Senior Vice President of the Insurance Research Council Elizabeth A. Sprinkel. “Responsible drivers who purchase insurance end up paying for injuries caused by uninsured drivers.”

The Insurance Research Council research studied data obtained from nine insurance companies, representing approximately 50% of the private passenger vehicle insurance market in the United States.

With all this happening it will be hard to get discount auto insurance because as uninsured motorist claims rise the premiums for current insureds will also go up. Your best chance to get inexpensive auto insurance is to try to get multiple free insurance quotes as possible and compare rates between companies.

Finding Medical Insurance

Around 7 million people in the UK are covered by health insurance, the majority being covered through their employers. The problem is that few have really studied their policy documents and many misunderstand what is covered. More importantly, what is not going to be paid for If you expect health insurance to pay all your health costs, you’re mistaken.

Health insurance is designed to provide protection for curable, short-term health problems and allow policyholders to jump the NHS queues to see consultants, be diagnosed, receive surgery or be treated. That sounds fine, but before you buy you need to appreciate the treatments and situations that fall outside the scope of the cover.

But first a word of warning. This article does not relate to any specific policy and the terms and conditions issued by individual insurers do vary. So please ensure you also check your policy documents. After reading this article, you’ll know what to look out for with health insurance online quotes!

Sorry – it’s a chronic condition

If a condition can be cured and is not a long-term problem, your insurance company will classify it as acute and should meet the cost. If your problem is incurable or it’s a problem that, despite appropriate treatment, will be with you for a long time, then your insurance company will classify it as chronic – and no, you won’t be covered.

But drawing a firm line between what is acute and what is chronic is fraught with problems, and leads to the biggest area of conflict between insurer and policyholder.

Everyone agrees that diabetes and asthma are chronic conditions as you’re likely to suffer from them for the rest of your life. So those sorts of condition are not covered.

Problems arise when the medical team initially considers a patients’ illness to be curable, but the condition subsequently deteriorates and the doctors change their mind, it’s now become incurable. This can happen especially in the treatment of some types of cancer.

In these circumstances, the condition is initially defined as acute and is therefore insured, but deteriorates and becomes chronic – and outside the terms of cover. This is possible as insurers retain the right to reclassify a condition from acute to chronic during treatment.

Sorry – it’s too long term
The insurance company will not pay out for long term treatment. But you need to check your policy documents to see how they define “long-term”. You can find the situation where a course of drugs extends for say 12 months, but the insurer will only pay for ten months.

Sorry – it’s preventative
Your insurance is designed to pay for the treatment and cure of conditions when they arise. It is not designed to pay for treatments that are used to prevent an illness.

Again, the problem of definition arises. Sometimes it is arguable whether a treatment is preventative or a cure. Take the drug Herceptin for example. This drug can be used in the early stages of breast cancer. Research shows that Herceptin can halve the incidence of cancer returning for women who have a particularly virulent form of the cancer known as HER2. In this situation, is Herceptin offering a cure or is it a preventative?

Insurance companies are split on the debate. Norwich Union, WPA, BUPA and Standard Life Healthcare will pay for Herceptin for HER2 patients whereas Legal and General and Axa PPP will not.

Sorry – the drug is not approved
Two of the main attractions for taking out health insurance are: to jump the queues at the NHS, and to get the latest treatments and drugs. But there’s a rider.

Unless the drug has been approved for use by the NHS in England and Wales, by the Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, your insurer is unlikely to approve its use. The problem is that the Institute’s brief is not simply to decide whether a drug works, but to carry out a cost/benefit analysis to ensure that the benefits to the nation outweigh the financial costs of using it in the NHS. Not an easy brief – and one that has placed the Institute under scrutiny for the extended delays in drug approval.

The compromise hit on by the Financial Ombudsman is that if a health policy won’t pay for the use of experimental treatments, then it should meet the cost of an approved conventional treatment with the policyholder footing the bill for the balance if the experimental treatment is more expensive.

Sorry – it’s a pre-existing condition

The basic principle is that if you are already suffering from a condition when you start a policy, then that condition “pre-exists” the policy and any claims for its treatment are invalid.

For this reason, insurance companies insist you complete an exhaustive questionnaire before they agree to insure you. After all they need a clear picture of your medical condition before they quote. For many applications, the insurer will, with your approval, also write to your GP for specific details of your medical history. They like to have a complete picture.

So let”s say some years ago you injured your knee playing football. It appeared to recover but now it turns out that you have a torn cartilage and need an operation. The insurer could argue that this is a pre-existing condition and you have to pay for its’ treatment.

Some insurers try to accommodate these grey areas with a moratorium provision within your policy. These provisions typically say that so long as you have been symptom free for two years relating to any condition you’ve suffered from within the last 5 years, then they will pay for subsequent treatment. Not all policies have these moratorium provisions and the time periods do vary between insurers. You should carefully read your policy.

Sorry – its not covered

Health Insurance is an annual contract – just like your car insurance. So when it comes to renewal, your insurer is at liberty to review not only your premium but also change the conditions on which your cover is provided.

Therefore, if your policy comes up for renewal mid way through a course of treatment, it’s possible to find that your new policy no longer covers that particular treatment. This means that you will have to foot the bill for the balance of the treatment.

Furthermore, with ongoing advances in medical research, more and more conditions are becoming treatable. This progress has the effect of shifting back the dividing line between chronic and acute conditions.

This hits the insurers’ pocket in two ways. With more conditions being reclassified as acute, the number of claims is increasing. And there’s also a trend for new treatments to cost more – Herceptin being a good example. The net result is that the insurers are finding themselves having to pay out far more. This is inevitably passed back to you through increased renewal premiums. And in an attempt to reduce their risk exposure, insurers have a tendency to adjust their definitions and exclusions. This means that you must read your renewal notice closely before you decide to renew.

So when you are considering free insurance quotes, be aware that everything is not always black and white. And if you’ve got insurance and need treatment, always contact your insurer without delay and get them to confirm that your treatment is indeed covered.

Paying Too Much For Health Coverage? Some Ways To Cut The Cost

You may be experiencing increases in medical coverage lately Here we examine some of the possible reasons for this and look into ways of combating them.

According to the market-research group Datamonitor, medical inflation is the reason for yearly increases of 8% in health insurance premiums. The steady progress in the development of new drugs, therapies and equipment used to diagnose medical conditions and the resulting costs are an obvious reason for this. This is understandable and everyone wants the latest in diagnostics and treatments. Equipment becomes obsolete with time and invariably the very words newer and improved mean a rise in cost.

Another reason may be that insurance risks and therefore costs increase with age. Many insurance companies still use age bands, where costs increase at the end of a ten-year period. For example, someone aged between 40 and 49 would pay their normal agreed premium. Reach the dreaded 50 and the next bracket is between 50 and 59, and so on. The increase is greater with age and could be as much as 50% in the 60 to 69 category.

Many insurers have chosen to smooth out the increases on a yearly basis. Getting free insurance quotes will show you some options. BUPA, Pruhealth and Axa PPP are three of these. Axa PPP customers, for example, should expect a rise in the cost of premiums by about 2%, due to their age. Other insurers are said to be thinking of introducing this method.

The fast rising costs of medical insurance is worrying consumers and many are making the decision to terminate their policies when they’re coming up to their 60’s and this may be just when their need is greatest. Datamonitor has issued figures showing that there was a drop of 15.2% in the number of people with private medical insurance in the 7 years prior to 2004.

With this in mind, insurers have come up with some ways to cut the costs. You could opt for an excess on the policy, effectively working out a plan to suit your budget. For instance BUPA tell us that if you were willing to pay a £2000 excess, you would halve your premium. An excess of £100 could quite well reduce your bill by around 10%.

No-claims discounts are another possible way to reduce your premium and it’s possible to obtain up to a 50% saving. You should be able to transfer this if you decide to change providers.

There’s a big variation in the way in which companies treat no claims discounts. Axa PPP offers an immediate 27.5% no claims discount at the start of a policy, but make a claim and this is lost. Not all BUPA’s policies include the provision for no claims discounts, but some do and they guarantee that in the event of a claim, the resulting rise in premium will be a maximum of 10%.

Pruehealth encourage their policyholders to stay healthy in order to reduce their premiums. You can get between 25 and 100 per cent off next year’s premium, depending on the effort you put into it. Points are given for various activities and lifestyle changes.

Having many options today, it is the perfect time to explore them Don’t just keep paying out and certainly don’t lose that valuable cover by cancelling your health insurance, just get on line and find health insurance online quotes and you will find the right cover for you at a price to suit your budget. Your wallet will be fatter with the savings.

Discount Auto Insurance Latest News – New Cell Phone Technology

There are many parents who would love to give their teenagers a mobile telephone that could not be used while driving. Now some companies say they have come up with a devise to make that possible, but they appear to be relying on hopeful thinking.

One devise to land on the shelves, is $10-a-month software by WQN Inc. based out of Dallas, it can disable a cellular phone while its owner is driving. It uses GPS technology, which can determine the speed a person is moving. But it can not determine if the person is driving — and therefore it can unwantingly lock a phone. WQN, who offers cellular phones and Internet security software for sale under the name WebSafety, says it had about 50 customers sign up for service during there first month.

Aegis Mobility, a software company based in Canada, plans to start offering a similar Global Positioning System-based devise this autumn, known as DriveAssistT. Aegis is speaking to large U.S. wireless phone carriers, who they need to support the software and charge their clients a fee of around $10 to $20 monthly, said the company’s vice president, David Teater.

The DriveAssistT system will cut off a mobile phone at driving speeds and relay a message to callers or texters saying the cellular phone they are trying to get in touch with is currently driving. But because that individual could be a passenger in the vehicle, this might not exactly solve the problem.

Other ideas or products that don’t involve GPS systems have flaws of their own. As a result, Parry Aftab, adviser to families on technology and safety, suggests concerned parents should figure out another way to stop their teenagers from calling or texting while driving. Parents would be better off taking away a teenagers mobile telephone if they aren’t using it properly, she said. discount auto insurance may be possible in the future if a devise is made to stop cell phone use while driving.

Growing concerns around driving while talking or text-messaging on a mobile phone in mounting, even if using Bluetooth technology, is very dangerous. The National Safety Council said just this month that mobile phone use should be totally banned while driving. The stats show a higher risk of accidents and deaths one driving will using a phone and one of the best ways to get inexpensive auto insurance is to have a clean record.

Currently there are at least 18 states restricting cell phone use — texting or speaking— for some or all drivers, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Even with these laws in place it hardly stops motorists especially young drivers from using their mobile phones while driving.

It’s critical for parents to ask themselves whether they want to prohibit their kid’s activities in this way. Your child might not be driving, but rather sitting on a train, bus or be a passenger in a friend’s vehicle.

Smart children will always find a way to get around technology, it’s human nature to try to defeat the system. Instead, try to educate your children about the dangers of mixing phones with driving.

5 Basic Facts About Medical Insurance Protection In A Bad Economy

1. DOES YOUR PLAN COVER YOU ON AND OFF THE JOB?

Many health insurance plans have specific exclusions that eliminate your benefits for anything that could have been covered under Workers Compensation or similar laws. Now read that last sentence again.

COULD HAVE BEEN COVERED!?

Yes you could have. Most self employed people and even some small business owners do not carry Workers Comp on themselves.

There are designed insurance plans that will cover you on and off the job — 24-hours a day, if you are not required by law to have Workers Compensation coverage. It is advisable to get health insurance online quotes and compare the benefits.

2. ARE YOU WRITING IT OFF?

Independent contractors (1099’s), home based business owners, professionals and other self employed people generally are not taking advantages of the tax laws available to them.

A lot of individuals who are covering all their own costs can deduct the premiums paid out. Just that alone can reduce your net out-of-pocket costs of a proper plan by as much as 40%. Ask your accounting professional if you are eligible and/or check out the IRS website for more information.

3. INTERNAL LIMITS
All true insurance plans use some form of internal controls to determine how much they will pay out for a particular procedure or service. There are two basic methods.

-Scheduled Benefits

Many plans, some of which are specifically marketed to self employed and independent people, have a clear schedule of what they will pay per doctor office visit, hospital stay, or even limits on what they will pay for testing per 24-hr. period. This structure is usually associated with “Indemnity Plans”. If you are presented with one of these plans, be sure to see the schedule of benefits, in writing. It is important that you understand these types of limits up front because once you reach them the company will not pay anything over that amount.

-Usual and Customary

“Usual and Customary” refers to the rate of pay out for a doctor office visit, procedure or hospital stay that is based on what the majority of physicians and facilities charge for that particular service in that particular geographical or comparable area. “Usual and Customary” charges represent the highest level of coverage on most major medical plans.

4.YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO SHOP!

If you are reading this you, are probably shopping for free insurance quotes. Every day people shop, for everything from groceries to a new home. During the shopping process, generally, the value, price, personal needs and general marketplace gets evaluated by the buyer. With this in mind, it is very disconcerting that most people never ask what a test, procedure or even doctor visit will cost. In this ever-changing health insurance market, it will become increasingly important for these questions to be asked of our medical professionals. Asking price will help you get the most out of your plan and reduce your out-of-pocket expenses.

5. NETWORKS AND DISCOUNTS

Almost all insurance plans and benefit programs work with medical networks to access discounted rates. In broad strokes, networks consist of medical professionals and facilities who agree, by contract, to charge discounted rates for services rendered. In many cases the network is one of the defining attributes of your program. Discounts can vary from 10% to 60% or more. Medical network discounts vary, but to ensure you minimize your out-of-pocket expenses, it is imperative that you preview the network’s list of physicians and facilities before committing. Doing this will make sure your physician is in network and you will know what specialists and clinics you have available to you

Ask your agent what network you are in, ask if it is local or national and then determine if it meets your own individual needs.
